Did you know? The shape of plant collenchyma cells and the shape of the bubbles in beer foam are the same - they are orthotetrachidecahedrons. |
The lollypop form of standard topiary is currently very popular, and is often grown at entranceways or by front doors. Topiary plants are defined as plants that are shaped by clipping into tight balls, cylinders, squares, cones or spirals. These plants are best suited in formal gardens where plants are immaculately manicured. All topiary plants make ideal pot specimens, used for entry specimens or simply arranged artistically on balconies or against large walls for softening. Topiary is one of the most enduring forms of plant architecture. The Romans invented it, Tudor knot gardens wouldn’t have any knots without it, and Victorian gothic gardens certainly wouldn’t be gothic if it didn’t have it, and it is now very popular in modern Australian gardens.
